We can craft internships to meet student interests.
For example, one student completed a very creative internship in art therapy. Internship areas may include, but are not limited to:
- Social work field placements or Counseling/Psychology, emphasis in: autism, aging, admin, mental health, dual diagnosis, recreation, homelessness, etc.
- Pastoral studies
- Fundraising and development
- Human resources or volunteer management
Matthew is studying Mental Health at Montgomery College. Once a business major at University of Maryland, Matthew has set his sights at becoming a Social Worker. His interest in working with people with developmental disabilities was sparked when he first met his cousin’s 4 year old son, who has Down Syndrome. Matthew fell in love with Charlie, and less than a year later Matthew found himself interviewing at Jubilee for an internship. Matthew is the current president of the Mental Health Club at Montgomery College and is a board member of the Community Advisory Board, which connects Montgomery College’s Mental Health Program and schools/ mental health agencies in the Montgomery County area. Matthew’s primary role at Jubilee is as direct support to Jubilee individuals, especially to the “Miracle Workers” part of Jubilee.
“My experience at Jubilee has been life changing. I’ve never so fully appreciated the little things in life as when I worked with Jubilee individuals. Hopefully these amazing people learned as much from me as I’ve learned from them. Also, the Jubilee staff are good to me and have helped foster my growth. I would recommend interning at Jubilee to anybody who wants to make a true difference.”
Most internships are unpaid, although current employees may be able to get internship credit for their work. We have also had students simultaneously apply for and be hired for both a part-time job and an internship. (In this case, as in any employment situation, we do ask that the student make a personal commitment to work here at least one year.)
Interested in an internship? E-mail Krista Francis at firstname.lastname@example.org. We can also work with high school students to meet their community service requirements. The contact is Niaya Wade at 301-949-8628 x 114.
