The Christmas Revels Concert
December 9 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
From the Christmas Revels website:
“Our 40th annual Christmas Revels celebrates the deep Scots-Irish connections to the music, traditions and cultural life in Appalachia.
As the days grow shorter, the community gathers to prepare for the holidays, sharing the many traditions that reflect their deep roots, and the journeys that led them to this place. From the Celtic homelands to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the music, dance, and family rituals bring neighbors in our 19th century “hollow” together in celebration.
Our multigenerational cast–ages 8 to 80–will be joined by the Whiskey Before Breakfast Band, banjo player Byron Thomas, and the Washington Revels Brass in a fully staged holiday production. Combining influences from Scottish, Irish, Appalachian, and African American music, they create a rich, uniquely American mash-up of toe-tapping reels, lush ballads and soaring spirituals, all culminating in a joyous Cèilidh. As in every Christmas Revels, the audience is invited to join in the fun!”
If a staff member is accompanying someone to the concert, please submit a registration form for the staff as well.
