Fashion Show Cancellation

March 13, 2020

Dear Jubilee Community:

With Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s announcement yesterday of the executive order prohibiting gatherings and events over 250 people, we have canceled the Jubilee Fashion Show. Our top priority at Jubilee is—as it has always been—the health and wellbeing of the people we support. Please visit the COVID-19 page of our website for up to date information on Jubilee’s response to the rapidly evolving situation.

This difficult but necessary decision to cancel the Fashion Show hits hardest the models, staff, designers, committee, and many others behind the scenes who have been working for months on this  special event to showcase and celebrate with you the beautiful people and transformative mission of Jubilee.

Watching our models rehearse has frequently brought me to tears of joy and inspired me to relish personal victories over adversity, sometimes in ways we couldn’t have imagined. For example, two years ago, one of our models was using a wheelchair. Last year we cheered Melissa Cory on when she started using a walker, and at the Fashion Show – by virtue of her determination and grit –she was going to walk the runway independently.

This same determination and grit will get us through this COVID-19 pandemic.

My welcome to you on Fashion Show night was going to end like this:

Tonight, you are invited to be a witness.
To the joy of the strut, the pose, and the turn.
To the showing of a bold face.
To gifts revealed.
To relationships that transform us.
To the opening of your heart and our common humanity.

Thank you for joining us, and for your support.

Today, I ask you to join me in showing a bold face during this COVID-19 pandemic and to continue your support of Jubilee, our transformative mission and our beautiful people. Let me suggest four (4) options:

  1. If you are already a Fashion Show sponsor or have already purchased your ticket(s) or made a donation, you don’t need to do anything. Your contribution is now a fully tax-deductible donation to Jubilee and you will receive a gift acknowledgment letter from Jubilee for your tax receipt purposes.
  2. If you have not yet become a sponsor, purchased a ticket or made another donation, you may still do so by clicking here. Your contribution will be a fully tax-deductible donation to Jubilee and you will receive a gift acknowledgment letter from Jubilee for your tax receipt purposes. New sponsors will be recognized with our current sponsors.
  3. To further support Jubilee during this pandemic, you may make an additional donation by clicking here.
  4. Of course, you may cancel your sponsorship, ticket purchase or other Fashion Show donation for a full refund. Please contact our office at (301) 949-8628 x185.

Thank you for opening your heart to Jubilee and our common humanity. It is our relationships that transform us. Please keep us in your prayers and know that you are in ours.

With my deepest gratitude,

Steve Keener
Executive Director
