Max and Kate: A Valentine’s Story

The first time Max saw Kate at their friend Pat’s house, he knew there was something special about her. He asked Kate out that day and she said yes to a movie date. Little did she know that she’d soon be saying yes to so much more.

On Jubilee’s annual Caribbean cruise trip, Max got down on one knee and asked Kate to marry him. Cheered on by their Jubilee friends, Kate joyfully agreed.

Surrounded by their friends and family, the pair was united in a beautiful commitment ceremony in the Spring of 2009. They fondly remember their delicious vanilla wedding cake with a bride and groom topper, and even feeding each other the first bite! They cruised to the Bahamas for their honeymoon, and they often celebrate their anniversary at Outback Steakhouse.

Today, Max and Kate live together, along with their longtime Jubilee support staff Margie and friends Jordan and Curtis. Margie helps keep their day-to-day life running smoothly. They like to take turns picking a special restaurant on Sunday nights, and for now, getting take-out as a weekly treat. Before the pandemic, Max and Kate would have a weekly date at Subway, where they were regulars and the staff knew them by name. They enjoy traveling, especially to Las Vegas for anniversary celebrations, where Max gets to indulge his love of all things Elvis.

For now, while traveling is on hold, they enjoy being home together where they play games, take walks and cook. They celebrated Christmas with a big tree and paper star decorations homemade by Kate, and they just celebrated Kate’s birthday. The couple has not yet settled on their Valentine’s Day plans, but Max hopes to get Kate a heart-shaped box of chocolates.

While we’re apart, Kate’s message to all her Jubilee friends is that she loves you all. Happy Valentine’s Day!
