Maryland’s Largest Newspaper Highlights Work to Help Break Down Language Barriers to Services

The Baltimore Sun and Tiempo Latino shone a spotlight on disparities in access to disability services for Hispanic Marylanders and efforts to improve it. This news coverage is a result of a review of government data by a coalition of organizations, led by Jubilee, working to improve access to disability services.

“The need for government agencies to implement language access plans and to increase outreach to underserved communities is now getting the attention it deserves,” said Jubilee’s Breaking Barriers manager Lisa Lorraine. “Outreach on this issue received a timely and welcome response from government agencies. We are looking forward to working closely with Maryland Secretary of Health Laura Herrera Scott and Maryland Secretary of Disabilities Carol Beatty.”
