A Birthday Wish Comes True

As told by Linda Hanna

I’m moving to my first ever home of my own on my birthday this year. I’ll be 66, and I’m going to blow out the candles on my birthday cake seated at my very own dining table.

I’ve always wanted a place that’s just mine, but I’ve never had one before. Jubilee’s been helping me out for 33 years. First at a group home and then when I moved back in with mom.

Mom’s real sick now. She falls down a lot. When Mom moved to a place where she gets help all the time we lost our house. I was sad and scared.

I asked Augusta from Jubilee, where am I going to go? Where will l live? After my mom, my last family member is my dog Teddy. I need a place to live that includes Teddy.

Jubilee came through for me. I’m moving to a Jubilee house, and they’re making it just like new for me and Teddy to live in! I have bad arthritis, and the house is going to be set up for me to easily get around with my walker.

I’m so excited to be moving to a new house for me and Teddy.

My birthday wish is finally coming true.

Jubilee hosted a housewarming for Linda with her new neighbors, friends, and Jubilee supporters. Maryland state delegate and Jubilee Board Member Jared Solomon warmly welcomed Linda to her new home, saying “this is what we’re working for, a Maryland where everyone can fulfill their potential and live and work independently.”

Jubilee welcomes housewarming gifts of gift cards to local grocery and pet stores for Linda. Contact Blanca Mikesell at donate@jubileemd.org regarding in-kind donations.
